Since he was a child Protti showed a particular artistic attitude that he could express only after completing his seminary studies, and becoming a student at the Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic career was based more on the hard work in galleries than on academic studies and rules (he gave his Academy diploma to a concierge of the Academy). His activity became systematic and tenacious so his production was plentiful. He took part at the most important exhibitions, in Italy and abroad, as the Exhibition of Roman Secessionists, the Biennial of Venice, the Quadrennial of Turin, the Permanente of Milan and his works were present in many exhibitions all over Italy. In 1910 he was at Buenos Aires, in 1911 at Paris, in 1912 at San Francisco, then in Pittsburgh, Munich, Barcellona, Zurich. Painting was his only interest. He never cared about diplomas, prizes or critical judgements - favourable or adverse - to which often he replied with irony or cold indifference.
