Garzia Fioresi (alias Umberto Grandi) Born in Vigevano. At the age of four, he moved to Bologna where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1912 he took part for the first time at an exhibition organized by "Cenacolo Francesco Francia"; The same year he was accepted at the Biennale of Venice. From 1913 to 1915 he was present at the exhibitions of Roman Secessionists. In 1920 he spent the summertime at Portici (near Naples); this was a very important experience that influenced his work in particular the choice of colours and the use of light in his painting. In 1921 he was present at the First Biennial of Rome and in 1923 he was invited to take part at the exhibition of Italian Artists at Buenos Aires. In the same year, the "Cenacolo Francesco Francia" his first one-man show.
From 1935 to 1943 he took part at the exhibitions of Quadrennial of Rome, where in 1943 he had a big one-man show.
He was present at the Biennial of Venice in 1948 and in 1950. In the last years of his artistic career his painting became more intimate and more and more melancholy.
