Our artistic experiences began long before Art Gallery Cinquantasei opened. In 1972 opened the publishing house which also attended to art publications. In those years were published many books about the Art in Emilia-Romagna, the Italian Art in 20th Century, the monographs on Sepo, Ilario Rossi, Carlo Corsi and many other art publications.
So, as consequence of this experience, together with Franco Solmi, a friend of mine, the idea of an expositive space where to recover and bring out bolognese painting of 19th and 20, grew up.
In those years the categorical imperative was the non-painting and, as we dealt with this artists, “butchered” by historical avant-gardes we were considered as a sort of heretic misbelievers.
The research on bolognese and emiliano-romagnola painting started with the exhibition “Emilia Romagna fra le due guerre” (E. R. art in the years between the two world wars) edited by Franco Solmi which earned many approbation. The editor introduced this initiative saying: “I realize that to collect a certain number of paintings under a so compelling title, like that we chose, is a sort of provocation and, I hope, this will rouse some sound disputes. It is too easy to notice that this is not a complete survey or a credible compilation but all this period is really unknown and negleted”.
More than 20 years have already passed and all we have made until now is a clear demonstration that our theory was true.
